Let's talk about the new way to get the roofing and solar contractor leads in 2020!

But for today's video, I want to talk about the new way to generate roofing or solar contractor leads in 2020 so let's talk about it. So the first thing I want to discuss is the old way, right? So before we talk about the new way, let's discuss the old ways.
So what is the old way to generate leads? Well, first of all, offline marketing methods, right? Print, direct mail, billboards, magazines, yard signs, or we have a door knocking you this outbound type of market, hustling, outbound, you know, call centers from door knocking or what else do we have? We have um, yeah, TV and radio commercials obviously. And the final thing that a lot of roofers and solar contractors still depend on and are surprised that they're not growing quickly is that they're just pretty much sitting around in their office every single day waiting for referrals. It's insane, right? So this is the old way offline. And the worst part about offline and the biggest problem with offline is that you can attract anything. You don't know where the leads are coming from. Did this lead come from the TV commercial, from the radio commercial or from the direct mail campaign was less a referral or did someone see our yard sign?
You know, you have no idea. And since you cannot track anything, it's impossible for you to know what levers to pull when you want to scale things, right? Maybe things are starting to work for you to ho, Hey, we get a bunch of leads here, but where are they coming from? You don't know. So yeah, maybe it's the TV. Let's ramp that up note and then work, uh, the radio maybe. Nope. You know, you see the problem here, right? And the truth is that nobody likes to be outbound marketed in the animal. Nobody likes to be cold called, let's face it. Nobody likes to be cold, called from, from a sales person. And the company that they have no idea who that is. They have not seen any branding. They've never not been warmed up. Nobody likes to be cold, called and sold over the phone.
And let's not even talk about door knocking, you know, selling someone on the porch cold on the, with door knocking in 2020, uh, if you're going to do that, if that's your plan, I wish you the best of luck. You're going to rip your hair off. And people, it's probably gonna just hurt your brand in the long run. However, there are some masters out there. So, yeah, there are obviously some, yeah, some genius in door-knocking. So if you're that one person in a thousand, that's awesome. Now what else do you know we have offline then we have those lead generation sites, right? Home advisor, Angie Smith porch, uh, works. I don't know what the names are of them and they are just bad, right? You don't like them. I don't like them. And they're duplicate leads. They cost you 80 to $130 per lead. So fire mother contractors, you know, get them as well.
It's impossible to close them. It's, it's, it's just bad. It doesn't build your brand. You don't have your own lonely online sales system. Nominate. It's not good and don't do that. And more then we have those marketing agencies that you know, also have similar type of model, which is like, yeah, you just pay up POS paper lead is after, right? And you have no guarantee that those leads are exclusive. Uh, and you don't do any brand building yet either. So marketing agency generate a bunch of leads under threat brand on their website. Then they sell that lead to you. Tell you that the, it's exclusive, who knows? He might sell it to five other contractors as well. You don't have a guarantee. Right. Then we also have Google. Yeah. Google is also kind of old advertising method. Uh, in my opinion, and that's simply because everyone has been doing Google for a long period of time.
Now everyone's doing SEO, everyone is doing a PaperClick as well. Google ads because of that, it's very competitive. It's very popular, takes time to get results and the prices are high. If you are comparing doing Google ads today compared to two years ago, you know what I'm talking about, the prices are going up a lot. You can't do any branding on the search engine. And if you think about it very objectively, you pretty much pay for keyword to appear on the page with 15 of your, of your competitors. It's like, yeah, no, no wonder it's like generating tire kick and everyone is all up to open up the first page. Just go into all of the pages sending free requests, uh, you know, request for estimates from all of them. Right. So yeah, that's how I ask for of needs. So that's kind of the old way in a quick fashion.
Legion sites, offline, Google, am I missing something here? I think that's about it. Yeah. Referrals, yard signs, blah, blah, blah, all of that. Right? So let's talk about the new way. Here's the new way, the second part, the new ways to generate leads in 2020 and beyond. So what you want to do is that you want to start to control their own advertising. You don't want to depend on lead gen sites. Don't want to depend on marketing agencies. You don't want to depend on offline marketing methods or referrals. You want to own and control your own advertising systems. So what's lemon mean by that? Well, first of all, you need the online sales system. You need a machine, a system, an engine, and you need a CRM system to start with. Then you own and control yourself and that you can automate with marketing automation.
So that's what you need first. You need a com, a system that will convert traffic into leads and convert leads into customers. And you want this system to follow up with leads that don't become customers and you want to also want to retarget and do branding on all of these social media platforms. So that's what I call an online sales system. The place where you can store all of the leads and convert them into customers in an automated way. You don't want to put people into the CRM system manually. You don't want to do the ads manually. You don't want to pull off manually. You don't want to do retargeting manually. You want to automate everything with a proven and predictable advertising online sales system. You want to own your own sales system. You don't want agency coming in, setting it up for you and then you know, leave with it.
If the, if you decide to stop working with them, you need to own it. You need to control it and you need to know how to automate it. So that's the first thing. You need an online sales system. The second thing that you need to do is that you need to escape Google HomeAdvisor, all of this crap, right? Move over to Facebook and social media. Why? Because the average American are spending three hours per day on their phone and about two and a half hours per day on social media. So this is the new TV. This is the new radio. This is the new magazine. This is the new new source. This is the new everything you need to start to advertise on this thing and the best social media platform for the roof and the solar industry right now is Facebook. You know the competition there is a lot lower compared to Google.
You can do branding and direct response advertising. Same in heinously, which is a magical combination. It's insane. You can share your branding videos on this thing. Don't bother sharing your videos on that old TV right there. That's going to cost you thousands of dollars you need to do at home social media. It's a game changer and that's how you grow your business. So now you have Facebook ads, you have an online sales system that will convert that traffic into leads and customers and follow up with them. What you need then is that you need to do branding on social media platforms. You need to learn how to distribute your branding content on social media platforms, on the Facebooks, on the Instagram, on YouTube, on Google. You need, you want to brand everywhere and you want to appear everywhere all the time with a branding. Why do you want to do branding?
Well, branding. You want to do branding because you want to control the perception of your company. You want homeowners in your area to like you, to trust you, to have a good feeling about you before they ever start to do business with you. Imagine this. Imagine you coming out to a person who has no idea who you are, what your company stands for, what results you've done, what type of testimonials you have, what type of work you do. Imagine trying to sell that person. It's going to be pretty tough. They have, they don't lie to you, they don't trust you anymore. And if you do that via cold call. Yeah, the big side on that one. If you're trying to do that door knocking. No thank you. No, I don't want it. Boom. Right? It's tough. It's tough to sell someone who has no idea who you are.
But imagine if you can do branding on social media. Imagine if people start to see your high quality branding videos that gives them a good feeling for a couple of days. Let's see. Let's say they start to see those videos everywhere on Facebook, Instagram, YouTube. They start to like you. They start to trust you even before they ever talk to you. So when they reach out to you and they want to do business with you, they already like and trust you. Do you think it's going to be easier for you to close that person then it's going to be easier for you to actually make a business with a person? Of course it is. You know, now they actually want to do business with you because they're Nike. So do you, the branding on social media and your competitors are not, you're going to have it in pain, competitive advantage.
It doesn't even compare. Just look at the biggest brands in the world. Nike, Apple. What else could we have? Uh, Coca-Cola, you know, all of these guys and big brands are, you know, they're huge friends and they definitely control the perception of their company. So you should too. So that's really the new way you do branding. You do have your online sales system and you do Facebook advertising. So let's move over to the third point. Like how do you actually get started with all of this? You know, I understand. You know, I'm talking about AI, machine learning, big data, online sales system, retargeting. I'm telling you that you should do this yourself, that you should do branding with videos and you're like, Hey max, I have no idea how to do that. Well that's totally okay. Uh, so first off, the old way, you know, stop doing those lead gen sites, those offline, this print this out, been door knocking, call centers, hiring marketing indices. Stop doing that. The new way is to figure out how to do it yourself. Have to own the online sales system yourself. How to move over to Facebook, how to utilize AI, machine learning, big data to automate everything and how to do branding online, controlling the perception of your roof from the solar business online. How do you automate that? How do you, um, yeah, how do you do retargeting? How do you appear everywhere all the time and so forth.
