But for today's video, I want to talk about five different advertising methods that you should avoid if you want to scale your roof in the solar business to that next level and a well. Yeah. Without further ado, let's dive into the first one. So the first advertising method that you should avoid if you're a roofing or solar contractor is lead generation websites.
Yep. I'm talking about obviously about home advisor, no porch and just list and all of these other ones. And yeah, chances are pretty high that you've tried them before or that you're currently using them. And if you are just stopped utilizing them, they're pretty much breaking all of the rules that you can do when it comes to advertising online. First of all, they generally duplicate leads a big, big no, no, you don't want to compete on the leads. Uh, you know, up to five contractors receive the same lead and it's just insane. The second thing is that the leads are super expensive, 80 to $130 per leads, sometimes even more than that, which is insane. The third thing is that you're doing, you're not building your own brand as you advertise for leads. They are building their brand. However you're doing all of the advertising on home advisor.com and under their logo.
So you're not building your brand simultaneously. Advertise for leads a big no, no as well. And the fourth thing is that you're not building your own platform. So when you generate the lead, you're not building your own platform. You're not building your own audience as it's called on these Facebook and social media platform and you're not building your own email list and you can, you can't automate the process and it's just insane. So those lead insights are just, it's bad, it's bad. So you're currently using it. Listen to my voice right now, login and stop using these lead generation sites. They are just so bad when you compared what you can do nowadays, you can own your own sales system, your own online sales is to do your own advertising and your own brand generate exclusive leads for between 10 to $20 by simultaneous as, as you build your audience, your platform and your brand.
So just believe me, stop utilizing the lead generation sites and figure the social media game out. Okay? That's the first thing. Stop utilizing lead generation websites. The second thing, the second marketing method that you should avoid in 2019 and 2020 and beyond is offline marketing methods. And yet offline marketing methods can still be good, but it should not be your main lead source. We're in the common. If you are only depending on offer and marketing to your business, that's no good man. You know? Why would you depend on offline marketing with every human on the planet pretty much, or every human in North American at least you know where you're doing your business. Most likely is watching this thing 24 seven if everyone is walking around like this, why would you try to give them a flyer? If everyone is walking like this when they're home, why would you try to send them a direct mail campaign?
Why would you spend money on on a billboard or a magazine when everyone is walking, it's just insane. You get my point, right? Everyone is watching this thing, so why are you still doing offline? It's just insane and you're printing what? You're probably telling yourselves some type of lie that you know, no, my target market is watching TV still. It's only kids that walk around with social media, Facebook advertising, my target market. You know people who are now 50 plus or something like that, they're still watching the TV. That's not true. My grandmother, it's watching Facebook and social media pretty much every single day. Why? Because she loves videos. She loves photos. She loves to interact with our friends and her family, especially her grandchildren. She loves to see the images of her grandchildren. So she says she's watching this thing to every one. It's like 230 or 240 active monthly users on Facebook right now in North America.
So yeah, I'm sure that you get it. Everyone is on this thing all day everyday. Then why are you still doing offline this? However, I'm still, I still believe that offline marketing methods can be a nice touch like sending out the direct mail campaign or free gift or something like that to existing or past customers. I think that can be calling you now have a have a yard sign. Yeah, can be nice to just throw it up during, you might get some referrals but you shouldn't depend on it. And then when it comes to note this hustle mentality when it comes to outbound marketing, you know, doing door knocking and cold calling and trying to sell people on the porch. No, I'm going to knock these many doors. I'm going to try and close them right there and then I'm just, I'm just going to be pushy salesperson.
I'm not going to care about educating and answering questions. I'm just going to close them on the porch. You know, nobody likes to be [inaudible] anymore and nobody likes to be cold called nobody likes. It's a push a sales person. Nobody likes that. So yeah, what I'm trying to say, or if you can figure out the social media game and then you can figure out this thing and you can learn how to distribute branding videos about your business and before you ever interact with the new customers. So when your sales guy actually come to the homeowner, that homeowner has already, they already know you. They already have an an emotion bond to you guys. They all already seen your branding videos. They already like you, they already trust you. And if you think that, do you think that if the homeowner all Liberty likes you and trust you before you ever try and sell them, do you think it's going to make the sales process easier and more fun?
Yeah, I think that we both know the answer to that question. Right? But that's, I'm not gonna ramble on on that. And more offline marketing, you should avoid it in 2020 and beyond. You shouldn't rely upon it that these, the third thing, the third advertising method that you should avoid in 2020 and beyond is marketing agencies. Yeah, marketing agencies. Why? Well, for many, many reasons. I know I talked about this in my videos, you know, nowadays in 2020 we can actually automate the process. You can own your own advertising system for your business and you can automate it with computers and you can run ads automated with computers and you can utilize marketing automation. It's like having an advertising team working for you, but it's a computer doing everything for you. So you don't need to outsource the work to advertising agencies anymore. You don't need it.
It's expensive. And more often than not, these agencies don't produce any good results. I'm sure you have experienced from that. They charge a bunch of money, but they underperform a ton. You know, a lot of them are generalists, so they're heavily everyone with everything. You know, they helping dentists and lawyers and chiropractors, roofing and solar contractors and they are helping everyone with everything. And then they claimed, you know, Google SEO, Facebook pay traffic, outbound marketing in marketing, landing pages, chatbots, you know, a bunch of bunk, thousands of different services to, you know, multiple industries. And they claim to be an expert at everything and just insane. So you know, you don't need marketing agencies anymore. You need, you need an online sale system that you own and control yourself because if you don't own the control, the online sales system, yourself and advertising agency might come and help you to set it up.
But then you and you, you kinda notice that, Hey, these guys don't produce any good results in the customer. Customers want money. So you decided to not work with them and more then they're just going to take that one night sales system and leave you don't own. So make sure that you own control your own online sales system and automated with computers and do your own brand and do the advertising under your own brand and under your own website. Then start generating exclusive leads. And also a big trend that I've noticed now as well with marketing agencies out there is that they are moving over to a paper lead, um, a paper lead type of service. So they are pretty much mimicking those home advisors sites and those Legion sites. So they come to you and they tell you that, you know, we can sell you lead, you can just buy lead from us and you know, paper lead.
If you want one lead, you pay for one lead. But what they don't tell you is that they are going to do the advertising under their brand other than their website. You're missing out on that entire thing. You're not going to own the sales system yourself and you have no guarantee that the leads are exclusive to you. Think about it, if they're selling you a, they have offered you in the paper lead service, do you think that they're only gonna sell that lead to you? Of course not. They're going to sell it to four or five other contractors as well. That's what they do, right? So they're just mimicking these home sites. It might, they might, you know, it sounds awesome, you know, just paper lead and we're going to do everything for you. But then they don't tell you that you're going to miss it.
You miss out on the branding and that you're going to sell it to a bunch of other contractors on the conversion rates can be terrific and you're not going to do any brand building and it's just, yeah. So if you're hiring a marketing agency, just be very, very clear about who you're out, who you are hiring and all of that. So yeah, that's the third thing. The fourth thing that you should avoid is Google. Yup. Google is super competitive and super popular in the roof and solar industry. Everyone is doing Google, everyone is doing SEO. And what happens when everyone is doing it? It's competitive, it's expensive, it's hard to get results and it takes a lot of time. So why would you do Google and SEO and pay per click when you can do social media and Facebook advertising and get a lot better results a lot quicker.
You pay 10 to $20 per lead and that are $830 per lead and you can do branding simultaneously as well. And your market is watching this 24 seven so why would you compete on a search engine whether where the competition is insanely, insanely high. Why not just appear on social media where your target market is like spending, I don't know how big percentage of the day, but they're like watching this thing all the time, right? So that's the fourth thing. Avoid Google. The fifth thing is that you should avoid outbound marketing. A lot of roofing is all the companies still rely upon like hundred percent on outbound marketing. I'm talking door knocking and call centers. Right. And I talked about this previously as well. But yeah, it's 2020 we have technology and homeowners know that, you know, you can do online ads nowadays, you can do sophisticated advertising campaigns and do branding on Facebook and social media.
So why would you still do door knocking? Or why would just feel try to like push people into buy something on the porch and why would you have this hustle mentality? Why not systemize your business and automated? So it's pretty much handles itself so that you can focus on your current customers and spend time on, you know, those, those things that matter, you know, customer support, delivering awesome products, making your business more efficient than better. Why would you spend time on just door knocking and cold calling people and getting slammed? You know, it's just, it's so unefficient I'm all about efficiency and systemizing and figuring that out. Especially now when we have computers. Technology, like you can make an, you can build an awesome systemized business with AI, machine learning and marketing automation and big data and all of this. Right? So why would you still door knocking?
Cold call? It's uh, it's just crazy. It doesn't make any sense to meet whatsoever at all. And also a big thing is that I hate to be cold cold and I hate to be doing them. And I know that a lot of, pretty much most of the homeowners out there, they don't like to be called, called Dorner. Find me one person that wakes up every morning and tell it tells themselves, Oh, I hope we say this guy knocks on my doors today. That would be so fun or all I hope that I'm a cold call. Cold calls me today and trying to push me to buy something. I hope that happens. Doesn't happen. So that's it for today's video to round it all up here. The five advertising methods that you should avoid for roofing, the solar company, our number one lead generation websites don't do them.
The second thing, offline marketing methods, the third thing, marketing agencies or thing, Google 15 outbound marketing methods such as a called colon Dornan. Hopefully you liked it.
