In today's live stream. I want to talk about four things to avoid. If you want to grow an eight figure roof in a solar business.
okay. But for today's video I want to talk about four things that you should avoid if you want to take your roof and the solar business to that next level. And I have some notes here in front of me as well.
So let's let me into it. So the first thing that you should avoid if you want to take a roof in the solar business to that eight figure level or beyond multiple eight figures, the first thing that you should do is to stop wasting a ton of money on TV and radio commercials. You know, I talk with quite a lot of roofers every single week and I've talked to my customers and I've seen people going from this, uh, doing this transformation, you know, spending five to 10 to $20,000 per month on TV and radio commercials, which, which is insane right now. Nobody is watching that TV anymore. You know what the truth is that this is the new TV, right? This is the new radio, this is the new magazine, the new news source. So instead of spending thousands of dollars on that old thing, that TV, that no one watches anymore, pretty much, you need to learn how to share your commercials and your branding videos and all of your content for branding purposes on this thing.
And you want to do that with pay traffic, both on Facebook. Uh, you can do it on Instagram as well, obviously. Um, and also on the on YouTube is a great way to share your branding videos as well. And the biggest difference between the social media and that old thing, the TV is that that thing is super expensive because you need to go to a commercial, you know, with TV company and you a bunch of work in bunch of paper to science about costs a lot of money while on this thing, you can pretty much share a video instantly. And when you do it with pay traffic, you can share to audience for just a couple of cents per view. So it's super cheap and it's like thousands and millions more power, millions times more powerful than that all thing. Uh, because everyone is walking around like this right now you're probably, if you're watching this video on the replay, you're probably watching it on this your phone, right?
So you need to stop wasting money on that thing. Learn how to share your branding content on this thing. And if you want to learn more about that, we teach you how to do that. On the truth, not com. So that's the first thing. Stop wasting thousands of on TV and radio. The second thing is that you need to stop wasting money on Legion sites. So, uh, I'm sure that you have experience with that, you know, home advisor and all of those other, you know, porch and Angie's list. And the reason why you shouldn't spend money on those sites is, yeah, you know, it's super expensive. You pay like $830 per lead. The leads are more often than not duplicate, right? So they're being shared with a ton of other contractors, which is insane. You can't do any brand building simultaneously as you advertise for leads, right?
You're not doing the, uh, the advertising under your brand over or under your website, uh, with your content. You're doing it under, on their platforms. You are not building your brand simultaneously as you advertise for leads, which is a huge mistake. You're not getting exclusive leads as mentioned, and you're paying 80 to $130 per lead instead of paying 10 to $20 per lead. If you figure out how to do it on Facebook and Instagram and social media, and you will also do, yeah, all of the leads will be exclusive to you between 10 to $20 and they will be generated under your brand and website. Um, so stops, you know, if you're doing home advice right now, just stop it. Don't do it anymore. Try and figure out how to do the Facebook part instead. And the social media part ad build a direct response advertising campaign where you can track everything.
You know, you know exactly how much you pay per lead, per click, per new car, customers, all that, you know, um, your ROI all the time. So if you want to do that transformation, that's really, you really need three things. So the first thing is that you need to figure out how to do the actual advertising, right? So how do you actually do Facebook advertising the right way? How do I build a campaign? How do I target homeowners in my area? Um, what do I write in my ads? Uh, that's really the first thing. How to figure out the Facebook advertising part. Uh, the second thing is that you need to have an online sales system, um, because that's really what home advisor and those sites provide with, right? They provide you with a platform that allows you to generate leads and kind of get leads and so forth.
But right now you can build your own sales system online very, very easily if you just know how to set it up. And if you just have someone to show you how to do it. So obviously when you generate leads from Facebook, you want those leads to go into a CRM system that you own, not a CRM system or, or a sales system that home advisor owns. You want to own your own sales system so that you can generate your exclusive leads into your own CRM system or to your own platform. So now you're, you're not only generating exclusive and cheaper leads, uh, that are better, but now you're also building your own platform using your own CRM system. And when you have your own CRM system, a, you can hook it up to marketing automation and machine learning. Uh, yeah, I'm just, I'm not going to talk about it, but you can pretty much automate this entire system and you can follow up with them automatically.
So you can send out the leads to your sales reps for fully automatically and you can follow up to the homeowner. Instead of doing that manually, you can do that fully, automatically. Um, and what else? Yeah, you can automate it. So you don't have to do any manual work. You can run the ads for the from cells. You put the leads into their CRM system, fully automated. Um, and then, um, you can also advertise for lead simultaneously as a build your brand. So that's the second thing. Stop. Stop using these legions sites. It's like, it's, yeah, it's total waste of money. So the third thing, uh, that you should stop doing if you want to take a roofing solar business to that next level kind of ties into to two, the first two as well. Um, but that is, you know, stop bugging people in your, in your area with door knocking and cold calling.
Nobody likes to be called called with those old fashioned outbound marketing techniques anymore. If you know, if I get a call and I don't know what the number is, I don't want to answer it and I'm very, very skeptical. If there is a sales person there also if someone door knocks and I see that their sales person there is like immediately I don't like that company. I check out the truck, I see their logo and I'm like, no, no, no, no. I don't want to, I don't want to interact with those guys. So you know, that's a hard transition for some roofing companies because they kind of depend on door knocking. It has been their go to advertising method for so long. Um, but yeah, like you really need to adapt right now in this online, online, online world that we're living, everyone is here.
So instead of bugging people by door knocking and cold calling them, learn how to warm them up with your brand initially. First on this thing, show them some videos of your company, show them your, the people within your company so that people get emotionally attached to your company. So they actually like you before you try to sell them anything. And that's the, the kind of the technique that I like to use this. Then, you know, we show them branding content mixed with a sales content when you offered them a free estimate, free roof inspection, right? So instead of just trying to immediately sell them online, uh, and is selling them immediately with outbound marketing such as cold calling and door knocking is even worse because now you're trying to sell them on the spot in person. And people are super uncomfortable with that, especially now when everyone is so introverted and in the, in their phones all day.
So when someone in like interrupts their, their, their secure, safe little world by trying to sell them on spot by Dutton knocking on your door, it's a tough sell right now. It's is super tough sell. So the way we like to do it is that we've warmed them up. We know you sharing them. Branding content videos is the best, right? Just having high quality videos where you show your company, your work, your testimonials, um, what you stand for. Talk about what you do, just good, good content so that homeowners in your area can see that first. And then we mix that together with uh, ads that are a direct response ad where we actually want them to take a specific action. And that is more often than not, you know, a free estimate or a request, a free roof inspection or something like that. So we mix those, this branding content with this, um, direct response ads.
And that works like magic because then homeowners feel like they know you and it's, they feel they have a good feeling about you. And that was brand what branding is, right? You want to control the perception of your company that what's branding is. So what do people think of you? You want to control that and you control that with videos on social media. And then once they know you and like you, that's when you show them a pitch, you know, get a free roofing estimate. And once they do that, when you get them on the phone, now they already know you and the sales process is going to be a thousand times easier. And then trying to door knock or cold call them and trying to sell them on the spot. So that's the third thing. Um, and Justin? Hi Justin. Sorry I missed your comment.
Where are you located? Where, where it's light outside right now. Yeah, I'm from Sweden, so I am actually like six hours ahead of the, let's see, East coast and like nine hours ahead of the West coast. Uh, but yeah, so I'm only working with a roofing and all the contractors in the U S but that's why it's on like that side. I'm from Sweden and it's cold here. That's why I'm so pale as well. I'm not having any nice California weather, uh, here. Um, but yeah, nice to have you here, Justin. So, and then the fourth thing that you should stop doing is to spending a fortune on Google. So this is also very, um, very common in the roofing and solar industry that um, you know, pretty much everyone is doing Google either Google SEO or paper click rate. So, um, it's very competitive and it's very expensive as well.
So what I like to do when we, when we start to work with the new roofing and solar contractor is that, you know, we escaped the competition. We, when we escaped Google and we would move over to the Facebook advertising platform. Is that simply because the competition there is so much lower, you know, a lot of roofers and solar contractors have a Facebook page, right? And it might boost some posts and they might post some organic content, but like pretty much, no, none of them are doing real advertising campaigns on Facebook. You know, building a, a real campaign. They hook it up to real sales system and they have the rights in intent with their advertising campaigns. You know, building the ads the right way, using the right type of images, having the right type of color call to actions, having the right sales system in place.
And you know, they, they don't have a sophisticated, sophisticated advertising campaign on Facebook at all. So when we move to Facebook and help roofing and solar contractors to get the system, the campaigns the right way and the branding, um, campaigns set up the right way, you know, they're just crushing their competition because their competition don't do that. They might have one ad while we help them to get multiple ad variations and we can just, um, yeah, it's, the competition is so much lower, so it's so much easier to get good results on Facebook's. That's what I'm trying to say. Essentially. Um, so yeah, move away from Google stops paying, you know, hundred to, I've heard people spending like $300 per lead on Google, which is insane. And on Facebook we can get high quality exclusive leads, um, for between 10 to $20. So it's a huge difference.
And you can build, you can also do the, the branding thing on Facebook and social media, right? Which is huge. So I think that's it for today's video, for things to avoid.
